NZ Paracycling Team

Sport/Profession

We ride a tandem bike in the New Zealand Paracycling team. The Pilot (Laura) is on the front and the stoker (Emma) is on the back. The stoker has to be visually impaired or blind to be eligible for competition.

Career History

We compete in both road and track events and are currently the World Champions and World Record Holders in the 3km tandem pursuit on the track. We also won a bronze medal at the same event. This year we also won a Silver medal at the road World Championships in South Carolina in the 25km road time trial.

Career Goals

This year we are looking to defend our World title in a few weeks and targeting the time trial at the road World Championships in Switzerland in August. All stepping stones towards the Paralympic games in Rio 2016.

Our Mantra

We take a no excuses approach to our training and both immensely enjoy what we do.

Favourite Balance Products

We are constantly transferring between road and track work in which the energy requirements and training requirements vary greatly. Balance helps us to transfer quickly e.g our track events are from 250m-3km and then the time trial is 25km and road race 85km so quite a variance in the training required for these different events so we are constantly looking to build strength and power in the track blocks then to build endurance and aerobic capacity a few months later for the longer events. The gels would have to be our favourite product as the handling of the tandem is often difficult so these are easy to eat and the consistency of them makes them easy to digest. We also both love the Ultimate Recovery Stack and the 100% Whey Natural protein powder.
