Who is your biggest career influence?
My husband, Deano Gaskin who has also achieved to a high level at Ironman triathlon has had a major influence on my career and provides me with a lot of support. Over the past year I’ve been coached by Bevan McKinnon (also a Balance Ambassador) and he has helped me lift my performance to a level where I am one of the top amateur athlete in New Zealand.
What are your hobbies outside of training & competing?
I’m a working athlete so as well as spending approximately 20 hours a week training I also work full time as a commercial solicitor in a CBD firm in Wellington, so that keeps me pretty busy!
What are 2 training tips you would give to aspiring athletes?
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what’s helped me to succeed both in sport, and my professional life over the past year. The lessons that I’ve learned from sport, and vice versa are applicable to both parts of my life. It’s important to set clear, definable goals which you can measure and work towards, and understand what it is that motivates you. If you are going to achieve your goals, sacrifices will be involved so you need to work out what it is that motivates you and strive to be the ‘best version of you’.
What are your top two balance products?
As a long distance triathlete, nutrition really is the fourth discipline after ‘swim, bike and run’. Having access to the best quality products on the market which assist my performance and help me to recover is key! I am a big fan of the ‘Pure’ range of Balance products, in particular:
- 100% Natural Bars; and
- 100% Whey Coconut Flavour.
